So often we spend time living outside of ourselves - beating ourselves up for what we eat, focusing on what we “should” be doing to work out, judging our bodies for not being good enough, and living on unsustainable, unhealthy hamster wheels that leave us stressed, depleted or, even worse, with chronic illness.
I believe that this is because of the current life module. We have learned to become detached from our bodies, mind, and spirits. That we are not the experts of our life experience. We are taught no pain no gain, faster is better, that we cannot trust when we are hungry, what workouts are best for us, what food nourishes us, why our bodies are sending signals of discomfort or displeasure. This makes us feel inherently unsafe, confused, and overwhelmed.
I know this, because I’ve been there. As a child I developed an autoimmune disease. I was told that this disease state was permanent and that nothing I could do besides take prescriptions could fix me. Over time, however, I began exploring holistic approaches to my health as a complement to traditional medical care. What did I learn during this exploration? Maybe my disease had a lot more to do with the turmoil in my life at that period of time and less to do with something being inherently wrong with me.
I have also struggled with diet and exercise confusion. I used to believe that more was better and there would be no gain without pain. I spent hours in the gym despite my physical suffering and fatigue. I forced myself to do exercise that made me feel terrible and eat food I didn’t enjoy. I fell on and off of the diet rollercoaster. I lost all sense of eating intuitively. All because I was trying to fit into a mold society made for me. No matter how hard I tried I never got the results I desired.
What I found, through seemingly endless trial and error, is that I didn’t need to be “fixed.” I was whole. I AM whole. I just had to tune out the noise, get off the hamster wheel, and create safety and pleasure in my body. This allowed me to rediscover the voice of my body- my intuition. Living intuitively, along with my education in Pilates, Ishtara, the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, and more- I learned I didn’t have to live trying to fit myself into a world that burned me out. And neither do you.
